This silver chasuble carries its message across both panels rather than confining it to one. On the front, a chalice rises beneath a radiant host marked IHS, followed below by an icon-style image of Our Lady in prayer, hands clasped and head bowed beneath a teal mantle. On the back, a portrait of Saint Vincent Pallotti looks downward above an open Gospel book entwined with grapes and wheat, beneath the embroidered words "Called to Serve."
Saint Vincent Pallotti founded the Union of Catholic Apostolate in the nineteenth century, built on the conviction that every member of the Church, lay and ordained alike, shares responsibility for its apostolic mission. The Gospel book and grapevine beneath his portrait point toward Scripture and the Eucharist as the twin sources from which that call to active service flows, with "Called to Serve" naming the theme directly rather than leaving it to the symbolism alone.
Underneath the imagery, the base fabric is a white jacquard patterned faintly with crosses and scrollwork, kept deliberately subdued so it doesn't compete with the gold orphrey panels running down the centre front and back. Those same orphrey panels carry silver and gold grapevine embroidery at each shoulder, extending the central imagery outward rather than confining it to a single narrow strip.
A chasuble built around a specific founder and a named vocational theme naturally points toward particular occasions: ordination anniversaries, retreats and formation Masses for those discerning or living an apostolic vocation, and feast days tied to Pallotti or the wider apostolate movement he founded. Its silver-white tone keeps it usable across the solemn feasts and major celebrations the colour is reserved for more broadly.
A different patron and a different colour altogether are found in our Red Priest Chasuble with Sacred Heart, Wheat & Grapevine Embroidery, built around Sacred Heart devotion rather than the Pallotti theme carried here.
Heavier embroidery work like this — the shaded portrait, the lettering, the small clusters of grapes — asks more of the underlying fabric than a simple trim would. The jacquard base is woven dense enough to support that weight without sagging or pulling at the stitching, even after the chasuble has been worn and stored repeatedly over years of liturgical use.
A founder, a Gospel verse made visible in stitched grapevine and wheat, an icon of Mary at prayer — together they turn this chasuble into something closer to a short visual catechesis than a simple vestment, worth reading slowly rather than glanced past.
