This deacon stole is cut in a long band in cream with a smooth, soft sheen, and it is worn diagonally from the left shoulder to the right side over the alb. Fine gold braid edges both sides, and each end finishes in a fringe of cream tassels set below a band of gold trim. The light tone sits well against a white alb and cream vestments.
Four winged symbols of the Evangelists are embroidered along the stole, each holding a scroll with the Evangelist's name. St. Matthew is shown as an angel, St. Mark as a lion, St. Luke as an ox and St. John as an eagle. Their wings are stitched in green, rose and gold, with a halo behind each figure. The deacon proclaims the Gospel at Mass, so the four Evangelists are a fitting design for his stole.
Between the symbols, scrollwork in gold and dark green carries a small flower and a pointed tip, and the same motif repeats down the whole length. The symbols run along the front and the back of the stole, so the design reads clearly from both sides when worn. To complete the set, see our cream dalmatic.
The symbols, scrolls, lettering and scrollwork are machine-embroidered at high stitch density. The faces, the feathers of the wings and the fine lines of the scrolls stay crisp and well defined against the cream ground, and the gold thread catches the light along the whole stole.
Suited to deacons, parishes and communities, this stole is worn at Mass, for Sundays, feasts and solemn celebrations, for ordinations and on the feasts of the Evangelists.
