Description
This chasuble is cut in a Gold jacquard damask with a subtle woven diamond pattern that catches the light across the fuller cone-shaped drape. A vertical orphrey panel in Gold satin runs down the centre front and back, edged on both sides by a gold cord and finished with a matching gold-bordered hem and rolled collar.
At the top of the front panel, St. Michael the Archangel stands in gold-winged armor, sword raised and scales of justice in hand, over a defeated figure wreathed in flame — the traditional image of the archangel's victory over evil. Below him, two matching panels of red cross, wheat and grape clusters descend the length of the front, while the back panel carries the IHS monogram above the same wheat and grape motif. Together the wheat and grapes recall the bread and wine of the Eucharist, gathered beneath the cross that stands at the centre of each.
Gold suits this chasuble to ordinary time and to feasts of the archangels, worn at any Mass calling for the standard liturgical colour. Parishes building a fuller vestment set may also consider the Gold Chi-Rho Chalice Chasuble for a richer colour with similar Eucharistic symbolism.
