This chasuble is cut in a full, flared shape from green fabric, with a stand-up collar and gold piping along the edges and two vertical gold lines framing the central embroidered panel. The wide, flowing cut gives fullness at the front and back, in keeping with the traditional chasuble silhouette worn over the alb and stole at Mass.
Running down the centre of both the front and back is a machine-embroidered panel built around the Chi-Rho monogram, the ancient christogram formed from the first two Greek letters of Christ's name. Below it sits a small roundel with the IHS monogram, set above a chalice bearing the host. A sheaf of wheat stands to one side, and a grapevine with a leaf and hanging clusters of grapes trails down the length of the panel.
Together, the chalice, wheat and grapes represent the Eucharist, the bread and wine offered and consecrated at Mass, while the Chi-Rho and IHS monograms mark the vestment as one of Christ. Green is the liturgical colour of Ordinary Time, worn for the Sundays and weekdays outside the fixed seasons and feasts of the Church year.
The Chi-Rho panel and the chalice, wheat and grapevine design are machine-embroidered at high stitch density, keeping the fine outlines of the monograms and the detail of the grapes and wheat crisp and well defined. The same panel repeats on the back, giving the chasuble a matched, symmetrical look from every side.
Suited to clergy, this chasuble is worn for Mass throughout Ordinary Time and other occasions calling for green vestments. For a different seasonal option in a similar embroidered style, see our Cream St. Anthony of Padua Chasuble.
